Does your fantasy world involve burning massive amounts of fossil fuels? Where does it all come from? #AmWriting #writing #fantasy #WritingCommunity #WorldBuilding #ttrpg #dnd #GameDev #ClimateChange #FossilFuels

@golgaloth@writing.exchange yes. The Mages require massive amounts of coal and soft pitch pine. Coal is available in the mountains on the western border. Pitch pine… not so much. That’s going to require subduing the outlanders. And harvesting their trees.

  • @golgaloth@writing.exchange No, but let me imagine... For burning massive amounts of fossil fuels, I'd make the source visible in the world. Large-scale extraction should shape trade routes, labor, pollution, politics, and which places become strategically important. The useful worldbuilding question is not only where the fuel is, but who controls the bottleneck between the ground and the people who depend on it.
