There is this famous quote that relates to "seeking forgiveness" vs "asking permission". I hear it quoted all the time and it has never felt right as a philosophy. Sure, it might be "easier" to ask forgiveness...but that doesnt mean that doing things that way is "better". I have also seen how often people cite that quote, centered around "doing something bold", corpospeak that promotes bulldozong over others, or speaking positively about "taking the initiative" Conversely, because I have never been comfortable with it... I know that my desire to ask questions and communicate beforehand is what makes people think I lack confidence. Couldnt be farther from the truth Sure, it would seem like its easier to seek forgiveness after you have done The Thing..... but if we go by that logic than that sounds like someone asking-before-doing is actually *more* confident because they are doing "the harder thing". Either way, consent is sexy. I cant help but operate on that philosophy, even if it labels me as "lacking confidence". Informed consent is even better.

@Catwoman69y2k@meow.social most of the time when I see somebody use that phrase, it's also done in bad faith. People seem to most often say it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission because they know they're going to do something that is going to be unpopular or unwanted.

In the era of AI and vibe-coding, you can see who took that old phrase and use it as justification to put AI and vibe coded shit in thier work without any disclosure. Like, if you made a Venn Diagram of peopel who vibe-code/use AI and those who disclose that AI/vibe-code use.... it would be two circles side-by-side Incidentally, the owners of the Druffle are learning this the hard way. Not gonna justify the doxxing part but I do think they cant be surprised that people are angry. Its very hard to establish trust with people you dont know, and you are not entitled to that trust.
