@hanktank61@NerdJoy.social Slowcookers are a very normal part of Midwestern US life, but you might also be confusing them with rice cookers, which are sold in Asian markets more frequently. I have both and I actually use the rice cooker more (it's not totally limited to just rice), but it does depend on the specific recipe. A rice cooker cooks at a medium temperature until the liquid is absorbed or evaporated, a slow cooker just heats at a consistent fairly low temperature indefinitely.

@hanktank61@NerdJoy.social I highly recommend the purchase of a rice cooker and an #InstantPot. Both of them allow you to cook food without constantly supervising the stove. The Instant Pot works as a pressure cooker, a steamer, a frying pan, or a slow cooker. I also use mine to make my yogurt every week.

@hanktank61@NerdJoy.social I was given a slowcooker and adimttedly I only cook one of the accompanying recipes (chili, heavy on beans) but it's sooo good and the style of cooking suits me :JustRight: Prep, fire, forget, come back when the 6 hour alarm rings.

@hanktank61@NerdJoy.social Very convenient. We cook in ours, but my wife also regularly uses it to create vegetable broth with all the various vegetable discards we have.
