I’ve got a question… when you subpoena text messages from the carrier, doesn’t that come with metadata? Meta data showing where the phone was at the time? If not gps then cell tower?

As an Ace Attorney themed account I would just like to say that this is the most Ace Attorney thing that has ever happened irl. Phoenix: Crap, the prosecution’s got me. They just exposed my client as a liar and proved he was in Atlanta at the time of the crime… Maybe I should just give up… Maya: Don’t lose hope just yet! Did you notice that poster they pulled out? Phoenix: Come to think of it, I didn’t really get a good look at it. They pulled it down pretty quick. Maya: Why do you think that is? There must be something on that poster that shows a contradiction with something in the prosecution’s case. Judge: Well, it looks like that about wraps things up. I now pronounce the defendent G- Phoenix: OBJECTION! Your honor, I’d like to take another look at those texts. [procedural bullshit] Maya: Finally! Now’s our chance. Examine each statement closely, and I’m sure you’ll find the contradiction! [cross examination] Phoenix: If it was Iowa playing… could it be that it was the Hawkeyes? [Reaction shots of people going:] [Theme music starts playing, suddenly the whole case turns around, now you just have to prove who really did it even though you’re a defense attorney and that’s 100% not your job]

The mistake was one thing. The refusal to admit it and then doubling down by everyone on the right says everything. Not shocking, just says what we already know.
