I am very aware of the real goal behind all those doomsday scenarios from Big AI. It's the Disney principle: "Don't allow anyone else to do what we did to the Brothers Grimm to make sure we are the only one making money that way". I also know that a global agreement against "AI" is just as ridiculous as what Big AI is telling us. But I like the "what if" way of thinking :) 3/3

@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net The thing about #AI is that the barriers to entry are low. Non-state actors (including commercial enterprise) control the technology, not governments. There will always be countries willing to host data centers and AI companies. All the previous non-proliferation treaties of the past are poor models. Treaties are between countries, not multinational companies and billionaires. I know this from consulting directly with UNIDIR, the R&D org at the #UN that supports arms control treaties by UN members. They’ve been working on it for over 10 years without much progress. Anyway, I’m not worried about AI apocalypse. 1. For technical reasons. 2. It’s hypothetical, not a real, proven problem. ***AI Apocalypse is a ruse to distract people from other topics more important to the AI Tech Bros — like #Trump, #climate, #war.
