When a health care provider asks consent for them to use AI to transcribe the visit, you decline, and they respond with "we might not have as much time". That's not consent, that's coercion. My access to medical care shouldn't be conditional on my consent to have inaccurate medical records that violate patient privacy. #HealthCare #Ontario #AI #Privacy

The labour of having to nudge, remind, cajole my health care providers to actually send in referrals is peak late-stage capitalism. Everyone is overwhelmed and paperwork falls through the cracks. The task of ensuring access to care has been downloaded to the individual. Neoliberalism in healthcare sucks. Of course, further privatization would make this worse, not better; don't fall for the starving healthcare of funding to justify privatization play. #Ontario #Healthcare #OnPoli #FuckC...

I spent a week going in circles with Blue Rewards/Air Miles to get them to delete my data. They wanted a copy of my drivers licence! That's a no-no (Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada - lovely staff, super helpful). Before you can submit a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner, you have to write to the Privacy Officer for the company. It took the Privacy Officer less than 24 hours to delete my data. Know your rights! #Privacy #AirMiles #BlueRewards

Your Cookware Got Worse On Purpose One buyout firm quietly collected Pyrex, Corelle, Instant Pot, and Oneida. Farberware is a name on a 200-year lease. And the pans still worth buying. #Cooking #Cookware #Enshittification https://www.worseonpurpose.com/p/your-cookware-got-worse-on-purpose

Small victories: It took a couple of years but I was finally able to get a procedure done that required me to unmask with all the staff wearing N95. Up to the last minute, the nurse pushing me into the room, was wearing a procedural "Are you going to be in the room? Can you put on an n95 before you go in?" And they swapped with another nurse. It is wrong that I have to invest so much time and energy keeping myself safe in healthcare settings but I will celebrate when it works! #Heal...

"Climate change denialism & COVID denialism both help capitalism, not workers or the most vulnerable. The ruling class wants nothing more than to ignore these issues so they can continue to profit at the expense of everyone else. Brain Changes Linked to Ultraprocessed Foods, Even in Otherwise Healthy Diets — Food processing itself may influence cognitive health, study suggests • A 10% increase in ultraprocessed food intake was tied to lower attention scores and greater dementia risk in a cross-sectional study. • The relationships persisted even in people who followed a Mediterranean diet. • No relationship emerged between ultraprocessed food intake and memory scores. #Food #UPF #BrainHealth https://www.medpagetoday...

Encountered a dozen teenagers playing "basketball" across four lanes of traffic on Baseline Road in front of Forest Ridge apartments. Bouncing, kicking, throwing the ball from one side of the road to the other narrowly missing cars. My "Pause your game" to allow me to pass was not heeded & met with choice words. Surely we can get them a soccer pitch & a baseball court to keep them off the streets? #Ottawa #OttCity

"Taking precautions is hard. It requires ongoing consideration of your fluid situation, and it will likely mean making different choices than those around you and even asking for their support. Whatever you decide to do, protecting yourself and others can bring a deep sense of: integrity, your actions are in line with what you now know; accomplishment, it takes courage to go against the grain in any area" You’re Not Alone: Restarting Protection in 2026 https://whn.global/your...

Streaks colliding! 100 days on Lingodeer (Mandarin and Spanish), meeting 765 days on Duolingo the day before my subscription expires! Not sure if I will keep my Duolingo streak alive. I have been doing French, Mandarin, Spanish, & Italian. But the Mandarin and Spanish are so much better on Lingodeer. Better activities, better than pronunciation, and less gimmicky stuff. I don't need everything gamified. I'm partial to surrendering that which is not serving me. #Langua...
