This mural on Harvey Street @ 2400 Mass Ave is nearly finished! Much gratitude to Cambridge Redevelopment Authority for sponsoring this community art project, Liz and Ainsley for the design and execution, and everyone who came out with brushes in hand to bring it to life! #CambridgeMA #StreetArt #Mural #StreetPhotography

Happened right at dismissal time -- my kid heard the shots walking home from school. https://www.cambridgeday.com/2026/10/06/one-injured-shooting-russell-field/ #CambridgeMA

TLDR: advice for cleaning stinky PC case and components? A couple of months ago, I trashpicked a gaming tower from a neighbor whose teenager had switched to a laptop, because the tower had some problem that kept it from booting up. It was stored in a (dry) basement for 4-5 years. I lugged it home with the vague intention of converting it to a home media server (since I don't want to add that duty to our mail server). On first testing, I found that its 8-yr-old Intel motherboard seemed to h...

Took in the Sand Sculpture Festival at Revere Beach today. These works of art survived the weekend rain beautifully. #RevereMA #SandSculpture #RevereBeach

These stone half-circles line the promenade abutting #RevereBeach. My only guess as to their purpose is that they once held rubbish bins, but all are now empty. Or were they designed for something else? #RevereMA

I watch @NYCMayor@mastox.eu videos to relax, as competence porn. This was far from one of his best, but it still says something special about his "social" acumen that my teen looked over my shoulder, blurted out "Mamdani's playing Mario Kart‽" and immediately shared the video link with his group chat. ("he's not very good" was the first reply.) https://youtu.be/7yezvrOxU7I #Mamdani #MarioKart #CompetencePorn

RE: https://mastodon.mediafaro.org/@mf_newsdigest/116919535195052657 Would be such a tragedy if someone developed a DOS attack against #SurveillanceSpecs. Especially if it drained or overheated the non-replaceable battery. #SurveillanceTech #MetaDystopia #BanRay

Took my kid to #REI in the Fenway today for hiking boots*, and learned with a shock that the store is closing permanently next month (August 2026). 😣 I missed the announcement last fall. https://www.masslive.com/news/2025/10/rei-co-op-plans-to-close-its-only-store-in-boston-heres-when.html Hilton's Tent City, gone. All urban EMS stores, closed. Are there any camping/ #outdoor supply shops in the #Boston metro area? * at least she found a pair of lightly-used Timberlands for under $50!

If anyone has a recommendation for a personal accountant in Mass who doesn't use cloud-based tax software that imposes a terrible privacy policy on the end user, please feel free to share a recommendation. To wit: https://www.getcanopy.com/privacy-policy/ . To their credit, at least the policy is legible, and clear about the many ways they'll (ab)use your info, as a client of their actual customer. And it's probably pretty typical. But that doesn't mean I can't look arou...

#Firefox 131 supports creating arbitrary links to text fragments, without needing anchor IDs in the web document. (Other major browsers have supported this for a while, but it's a nice feature to have, thanks @mozilla.) https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/URI/Fragment/Text_fragments
