I am in my home city and someone is trying to guess where I am “from”. they have so far guessed australia (???), canada (flannel shirt throwing them off?), and “visiting from the netherlands” (okay that one is common around here with the ferry and rail links) clearly not very good at this. either that or something has gone horrendously wrong in my local dialect lately

sure facebook is a privacy-violating danger to democracy full of AI slop (and I don’t use that word lightly), but their advertising algorithm is laser focused on feeding me seemingly nothing but video game and dnb orchestral concerts I can go to in london so it’s kinda worth it :p

embedded software engineer? sure, I too am in bed and engineering soft wares

I really like it when people understand that the best intimacy is just Existing with someone in the fullness of the moment. not needing to prove or be anything, just relaxing into a trust in the Deep Okayness of each other

one of these days I would love to do a public talk about what visa and mastercard *actually* do and how we got here I keep looking at people having Takes on my industry and while their heart rounds to being in the right place, there is a fascinating world of complexities in the mechanics of financial systems to solve if you ever want to replace them

my neighbours listen to really loud drum and bass every morning… whether they like it or not :3

I am every single month amused at how many banking and finance management apps are incapable of understanding that people might actually work for a company that also accepts payments at their retail and online stores, so send notifications like “[amount] refund from [employer]”

nixcon really doesn't do good for my assertions of “it's not a cult” to my colleagues at work :p

people really do have no idea how to respond to a person saying “you're right, I should not have done that and in retrospect it was not the right move. can I walk you through the problem I was trying to solve here and get some input?”, huh

I love accidentally stepping into engineering religious wars :D made the wonderful tactical error of asking for opinions on torx verses hex screw heads for a project

it is so good to have that childlike sense of wonder and curiosity about the world and how things work back 🥰 spent a day or so poking at my new phone with its recommended charger and discovered whole universes of fascinating engineering behind USB PD with AVS and the downstream implications of being able to shift the adjustable voltage conversion off the device to prevent like 5w of heat from getting dumped into a thermal management system, leaving more headroom to cool the SoC and battery

has anyone ever found a real use for service workers in browsers that isn't just causing persistent battery drain for no obvious gain? [rhetorical question] x dot com has a bug in a service worker it runs when you visit the site where it will repeatedly make requests for an incomprehensible cloudflare-hosted URL in a way that persists browser restarts and is completely undiagnosable without enabling developer options. only noticed because my MacBook Air has been warm all day

it is so deeply absurd that the more I stop trying to please people and live for my own happiness, the more some of those same people seem to actively like me one of those things that sounds so absurd when you hear it repeated but is actually frustratingly true and makes sense only in retrospect

it blows my mind looking at benchmarks and seeing that high end phones have, in just three years, experienced roughly a doubling of CPU peak score and a tripling of GPU peak score, with dramatically better thermal design to sustain that performance and *still* get longer battery life. genuinely incredible stuff
